Capital cities

Capital Cities Quiz

This capital cities quiz covers 193 countries of the world. Each question names a country and you pick its capital from four choices, or type it in the harder typed mode below. Israel and Palestine are left out because their capitals are disputed.

How to play: each question names a country; tap its capital or press 1 to 4. The wrong choices are mostly other big cities of the same country, so the biggest city is often a trap. After each answer you see a short note when a country has a second capital. Capitals follow the national constitutions and governments as listed on Quiz Zoomies (checked October 2026).

Frequently asked questions

How many capital cities are there in the world?

There are 195 countries, and most have one capital city. A few have more than one: South Africa has three (Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein) and Bolivia has two (Sucre and La Paz). This quiz has 193 countries because the capitals of Israel and Palestine are disputed.

What are the hardest capital cities?

The trickiest ones in this quiz include Luanda (Angola), St. John's (Antigua and Barbuda), Belmopan (Belize), and Porto-Novo (Benin). They are small, new or easily confused with a bigger city.

Which countries have more than one capital?

South Africa has three capitals (Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein) and Bolivia has two (Sucre and La Paz). Several more have an official capital and a different seat of government or main city: Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Eswatini, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. The quiz accepts the second city when you type it.

Can I type the capitals instead of picking?

Yes. The typed mode under the multiple choice game asks the same countries, and you type the capital. Capitals, accents and punctuation do not matter, and old or alternative names like Kiev or Nur-Sultan count.

Why are Israel and Palestine not in the quiz?

Israel names Jerusalem as its capital, and Palestine names East Jerusalem. Their status is disputed between countries, so Quiz Zoomies leaves both out of capital quiz questions. Both are still shown in the list below with a note.
